Panama – Isla Tabago

We spent a few nights on this Island for Christmas 2023, its a easy 30mins ride out from Panama City.

On the boat ride you whizz pasts lots and lots of cargo ships and tankers. All anchored, awaiting their time slot to head into the canal. The wait time was up to 20 days when we were there.

Tabago is small island and is mostly a day trip destination for city dwellers wanting some beach time.

The island has two beaches, a fishing beach and the tourist beach.

Each day the ferry offloads the day trippers and they head to the tourist beach for a day of relaxing. Lots of small retailers near the beach spring to life offering everything needed.

By 5pm the last ferry has gone and the island returns to its calm self again!

We wanted some down time for Christmas and thats what we got, staying at a lovely boutique hotel set back from the town.

The church of St Peter the apostle was built by the Spanish in 1524, making it the second oldest founded by the Spanish along the whole Pacific coast of the Americas.

The current incarnation was built on this spot in the 18th century.

There are only a couple of restaurants open in the evening but that adds to the atmosphere of this quiet place.

Next stop if to the airport to fly to Bocas del Toro.
