Belize

We only had just under 3 weeks in Belize, i could have spent longer.

There is much to see on the mainland even if most of the focus is on the country’s hedonistic Cayes/Islands just off the coast.

Our first stop was a beach area called Placencia, a 2.5hr drive south from Belize City. We hired a very old American SUV that felt like sitting in an armchair when driving it.

Placencia is a small town at the end of the Placencia peninsula. Between the peninsula and the mainland, Placencia Lagoon is home to manatees and saltwater crocodiles

We drove back up north to the airport to return our antique but insanely comfortable hire vehicle. We took a 20mins flight to Caye Caulker just to shorten the journey a bit.

Caye Caulker, our first island, was very laid back yet a place where we had one of the best ever underwater experiences in all our travels to date.

Our final stop was Caye Ambergris, just a short boat ferry from Caye Caulker.

Belize has been stunning, next we take a ferry to Chetumal and arrive at our last Central American country, Mexico!
