Belize – Placencia

Placencia is a small town in the south of mainland Belize on the Caribbean coast. It was our first stop in Belize and only a 2-3 hour drive south from Belize City.

Driving there was easy, there was very little traffic, with the occasional speed bump to contend with.

Speed bumps seems to be an overly used bit of speed containment in Central America, quite tricky in a car let alone a golf buggy.

We managed to book a hotel on Maya Beach, about 15mins from Placencia itself. You never quite know what you’re getting even with online reviews but we hit the jackpot! The hotel restaurant was not just good, it was fabulous and we was a very happy guest!

The beaches here are not deep and wide bays of sand but smaller strips of beach against a turquoise blue sea.

We spent a few days here relaxing after nearly four months travelling and it was marvellous. So relaxing and a completely barefoot experience!

There was a land plot next to the hotel that seemed to claimed by some nicely painted US school buses.

Placencia is a small but very charming town at the end of the peninsula. It’s growing quickly with lots of new builds and plots of land for sale, all very tempting!

Unfortunately i never even got to try the drink but maybe next time!

Golf buggies seem to be the way to go here, that’s a first for us!

Our first stop in Belize was wonderful, great weather, beautiful views and a very relaxing environment, a great start to our Belize trip!

Next we drive back to Belize City and head to Caye Caulker.
