Uvita is a beach town on the southeastern Pacific coast. It’s beach is set within the Marrino Ballena National Park.

As a national park there is a $6 entry fee and the beach is free of any commerce, making it such a natural experience to visit.
The beach runs for miles, with palm trees behind it and the warm blue waters of the Pacific at its edge.

Whales, dolphins, manta rays and hammer head sharks are seem in these waters.

At low tide you can walk along a sandbank out to a rocky outcrop. From above it looks like a whale tail.

Below you can see some people walking out at low tide.

Here a group have made it to distant rocks as sunset approaches. Its around 20 mins walk along the sandbank but longer if going earlier or later when wading through water.

The town is very small with only a few restaurants/shops near to the beach but there are many others not far away.

Further south is the sensational Corcovado National Park.

We drove an hour south to Sierpe for a day tour.

You glide through the mangrove straddled waters of the Sierpe river for about 30 mins until you hit the sea. The somewhat bumpy but safe boat ride to Sirena Station takes another 90mins.
Humpback whales migrate to this area to mate and can often be seen along these waters. We were out of whale season but still saw a baby humpback.

Our guide took us through the jungle trails to see so much wildlife. This was our first jungle trek experience in Costa Rica and it was fantastic,
The trek wasn’t strenuous as such but walking in such humidity was hard work!
We saw four types of monkeys, three Tapirs, an Anteater and much more including Toucans.

We stopped for lunch and a well earned rest.
Below is a row of the spotter scopes the guides carry round. You get to look through the scope and they also use them to take photos for the group.

As we left Uvita we decided to stop in at Dominical, a small beach town a few miles north.
It’s a funky beach town with a nice feel.

There was a great set of market stalls behind the beach.

There is also a local brewery with a restaurant in a large tree house.

We really loved Uvita and were sad to leave!
Our next stop is just an hour or so away in Manuel Antonio, a beach town next to a national park.

Fabulous, South America gets into your blood!
Love to you both from freezing Blighty!
