Canada – Calgary

The drive from Banff to Calgary is less than two hours but the two places couldn’t be more different.

We did our best to enjoy the city but in reality we were two lost souls grieving the loss of the mountains and their beauty as we wandered Calgary city’s streets!

It’s a smallish city, made famous by its annual Stampede festival in July which draws over a million people to the city.

But we were out of season and so we did what we normally do and walked the city to eek out some interesting things to see.

We did manage to find some interesting things to photograph but it wasn’t a ‘target rich’ environment.

We even took a look around the city library for some inspiration!

Next we fly east for 5 hrs to Halifax, Nova Scotia crossing two time zones and starting our East Canada segment of this trip.

  1. Hi J&J. Beautiful photos of BC, our route mirrored yours up to Calgary – we flew from Calgary to Nashville for our next leg. I remember the disappointment of Calgary after the stunning mountains and lakes. There are certainly some sites to visit, but we were underwhelmed and also spent some time walking around Calgary looking for inspiration! Your journey has been amazing, I think we’d like to do the eastern cities of Canada one day so look forward to your Montreal/Quebec/Toronto blog (if they’re on your agenda).
