Canada – Ottawa

Ottawa, Canada’s capital city is about a 4.5hr drive from Quebec City.

We loved the City, it’s easy to walk around and there is plenty to see.

The national parliament dominates the centre of town, along with the impressive Fairmont Hotel, Chateau Laurier where we stayed.

The city has some grand old buildings and it also has Canada’s longest canal which runs for around 200km.

Many of Canada’s best museums are located here.

We visited the national art gallery which is very impressive in terms of its architecture and its fine art collection.

We also went to the museum of National History to learn some more about the First Nation peoples and later, the European attempts to gain control of Canada.

They have some great exhibits all displayed in a very engaging manner.

I even learned that the first overseas ‘visitors’ were the vikings over a thousand years ago, who knew!

We were lucky again with the weather, wearing t-shirts during the day and spoilt with good sunsets in the evening.

And of course, it wasn’t long before we found another national park for a walk, this one is Gatineau Park, less than 15mins from the city.

We really liked Ottawa, it’s a very engaging city and we had a great time there.

Next stop is Toronto, a 4-5hr drive from Ottawa.
