Akureyri is around one hour’s drive from Husavik. Known informally as the country’s northern capital.

It’s still quite a small town but has some nice buildings. We checked out the art gallery but decided to leave as it was the first day of a new exhibition and we felt rather underdressed given the other attendees, we were dressed for trekking!

We had to have a double take with this stop light, nice touch I think!

The road side views of the lava fields now covered by moss and plant growth.

With all the right solar and cloud readings we drove 20mins out of town to find some dark skies.

We found a quiet spot near a lake in a place called Gasir.

We had a great showing tonight, lots of colours and a widespread display.

We only had to contend with the occasional car driving in to share the location.

A great evening watching the Northern Lights, it’s what you do in the evening here!
Tomorrow we leave the north coast and head to our next destination on the west coast.
