South Africa – Plettenberg Bay

Our next stop was at Plettenberg Bay, but we paid a visit to Storms River park along the way.

There are some nice views along the coastline here and a short trek to a suspension bridge you can walk across.

We also spotted some Rock Rabbits or Hyrax, commonly known as Dassies here! Somehow they are related to Elephants…

As you drive into Plettenberg you can see the coastline as you approach the town.

The beach is stunning here and the town is rather nice too.

Migrating Whales can be see here although it was the wrong time of year to see them for us.

There is a fabulous coastline trek at the nearby Robberg Peninsula Nature Reserve.

It a fairly easy trail, although watch the many ants along the route, you have to keep moving to avoid them climbing aboard your shoes!

The cliff top views and the wonderful beaches here are magnificent.

Not content with a hearty walk, I soon find myself signed up for swimming with Cape fur seals!

On with a wet suit and gloves and into the sea we went.

There is a large colony of seals here and you keep your distance from them as they are curious but can bite!

They are wonderful creatures, seemingly just playing in the water or honking from the shoreline.

It’s actually a really fun thing to do and I did eventually manage to peel off my set suit!

Plettenberg Bay is a great place to visit, we have made a great start on the Garden Route.

Next we stop in Wilderness.
