Our last stop in South Africa was at Camps Bay, a beach suburb close to Cape Town.

We have driven 4,500km across the country and this is a fitting end before we head off to Namibia.

It’s a short taxi ride into Cape Town from here and so we went to explore the city.

Walking along the waterfront area is great, there is lots to see and plenty of restaurants to enjoy.
We had a clear day and caught a view of Table Mountain towering above the city.

We headed off to check out the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Contemporary Art galleries can often be a little too out there for my taste but this one is worth a visit.

You can’t beat a good spiral staircase!

Our next stop was to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Nestled into the mountainside, it’s a great place to walk amongst the trees and flower gardens.
There is a nice, if fairly short, canopy walk too.

A visit to Cape Town necessitates a trip up to Table Mountain.
There is a trek up to the top for the daring but we took the cable car up!

Your entry tickets are valid for 7 days, allowing you to choose a clear day as the mountain top can often be cloudy,

The views from the top are fabulous and you are free to explore the mountain top area.

Our final trip was to Robben Island, to visit the prison where many of South Africa’s political prisoners were held, including prou activists like Nelson Mandela.
The tour takes you via boat from the waterfront providing great views back towards the city and Table Mountain.

Upon arrival on the island, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you board a coach tour around the site before a walk inside the prison.

I copied a photo below of the inmates being made to sit all day breaking rocks.

An inmate’s view through the prison bars.

Below is Nelson Mandela’s cell.

For the internal tour your guide is an ex-inmate, which makes it so interesting.

Our guide gave us a great insight into what life was like as a prisoner.

The Robben Island tour was excellent and very informative.
We have had a fabulous time in and around Cape Town, it’s an interesting, vibrant and compelling City, we may well come back to see more.
That’s the end of our journey in South Africa, next stop Namibia.
