Varanasi Sunrise at the Ghats

A 5am start this morning for a boat ride along the Ganges to see the sunrise and watch the ceremonies taking place along the major ghats.

Some people washing and bathing in the holy Ganges water, not necessarily a clean water experience though…

The moon shines behind these two beautiful ghats.

The building above is a very expensive hotel here with stunning views, not our one I’m afraid!

An early morning swimmer braving the numerous boats in the water with what we were told was an abandoned place behind him.

One of the two ghats used for cremation ceremonies.

Jacqui and I then set our own lighted diya’s into the Ganges as an offering and to provide health and happiness for the future.
