Valparaíso is a beautiful city on the coast about one hour’s drive west of Santiago. It’s well worth spending some time wondering around the unique bars and restaurants, an abundance of street art and wonderful views.

Head up the stairways into the areas above the port area (Cerro Concepcion and Cerro Alegre) and you are transported into a bohemian experience of cobbled streets and beautiful colonial houses set amongst some of South America’s most extensive street art experiences.

This area is much larger than it seems and is full of great bars and restaurants to take a rest in after a few hours of walking!

We spent three nights here but could have easily spent more time, and having seen so many places in South America on this trip, Valparaíso easily makes into our top ten places to visit.
