We opted for a smallish island called Roatan for our Honduran experience.

We crossed from Flores in Guatemala to Belize City airport and then flew to Roatan in the smallest plane I’ve been in since my friend took me up in a microlight over the Isle of Wight!

You are so close you get to see how easy it looks to fly these things!

You fly back south from Belize along the reef and atolls in the sea, it looks magical.

Above is West Bay, very close to where we stayed and one of the best and biggest beaches in the island. From here you can swim out to the reef to snorkel safely.

It’s a stunning but sometimes busy beach.
When the cruise ships dock uptown, you can get lots of people hit the beach, check the cruise landings schedule to guide your days!
It is a fabulous beach, even when there are crowds in the daytime, at night you can wave the ships off with a local beer 😉

We hired a bike to take us around the island, the roads are manageable but the wind made for an interesting ride!

We rode through Punta Gorda, its a local village that seemed very quiet but had these three beautiful mangroves.

My co-conspirator having an eye to eye moment with a local.

We rode further through to Oakridge in our search for a good beach.

There are lots of properties hugging the coastline here but no beach.

Some wonderfully positioned homes if you like the sea though!

We managed to find someone to take us on his boat to a small local beach, he promised to come back for us in a couple of hours time…

The boat below, on ground, is apparently a nightclub built by someone that never got to open it before he got carted off to prison…

Many of the beaches sit in resorts, we checked out Las Palmeras.

We snorkelled from West End and from West Bay, both good spots to see lots of fish and some coral if you head further out,

Roatan was a small Honduran experience but a good one, Islands are always a bit different from the mainland and perhaps we will make it there oneday.

It’s a special place and there is so much we didn’t get to see but it’s a bumpy ride if you want to get there we had wanted to go further into the east of the island.

Magical sunsets, warm and translucent seas, what’s not to like.

Next we get back on a Cessna to start out trip in Belize.

They are the best photos so far, looks just beautiful. Lovley to see Jacqui too. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us
